If something changes within your business, you may need to notify the Home Office to stay compliant with your sponsor licence. The easiest way to do this is directly through the Borderless platform.

🛠 How to Report a Change

  1. Go to “SMS Changes”

  2. Click “Add”

  3. Select the relevant change from the list

  4. Click “Submit”

Once you’ve submitted your request, our immigration team will review it to make sure everything looks correct. If everything’s in order, we’ll send the update to the Home Office on your behalf. If it turns out the change doesn’t need to be reported, we’ll cancel the request for you - no action needed on your part.

⚠️ What Types of Changes Do You Need to Report?

Below are the business or organisational changes that the Home Office expects sponsors to report through SMS. Unless otherwise specified, these must be submitted within 20 working days of the change.

You must report if:

  • The organisation changes its legal name or any trading names

  • There’s a change to the head office or any location where sponsored workers are based

  • You open or close a UK branch, subsidiary, or linked entity

  • The organisation’s charitable status or size (e.g. small ↔ large) changes

  • Your registration details with Companies House, Charity Commission, or any regulator change

  • There’s a change in your:

    • Authorising Officer

    • Key Contact

    • Level 1 User
(Some of these can be updated directly in the SMS and may auto-update)

  • You undergo a merger, acquisition, takeover, de-merger, or any other corporate restructure

  • You sell all or part of the business, including transferring sponsored staff under TUPE or similar rules

  • The business enters administration, liquidation, receivership, or insolvency

  • You receive a civil penalty, criminal conviction, or compliance sanction that may affect your licence

⏳ How Long Does It Take?

Requests to the Home Office can take up to 18 weeks to be processed. You’ll be able to see the status of your request in your Borderless dashboard, and we’ll keep you updated throughout the process.

If you’re unsure whether a change needs to be reported, feel free to reach out to [email protected]!
