From 20 May 2026 the Home Office expects sponsors to run Right to Work checks on everyone they employ, not only the workers they sponsor. Borderless now handles both, so British workers, students, dependants and supplementary staff no longer have to live in a spreadsheet.

Whether someone is sponsored is now recorded against them rather than the role they sit in. You are asked when you add them, and only for workers on a Skilled Worker visa, because that is the only route that can be sponsored today. Everyone else is added as non-sponsored, with no sponsorship questions to answer.

Sponsorship length is now optional on a role, so one role can serve sponsored and non-sponsored staff. When you do sponsor someone, you set their sponsorship length on their own record, pre-filled from the role and editable there.

Upload a CoS when you create a role and Borderless reads the job title, description, hours and pay from it, then hands you the role form pre-filled to check. Every field stays editable, and you can skip the step and enter the role yourself.

The Individuals list, Halo and your compliance score all cover your whole workforce, with a toggle to switch between all workers, sponsored only and non-sponsored only.

Each worker is measured only against the checks that apply to them. A worker you do not sponsor is not asked for a Certificate of Sponsorship, recruitment evidence or payslips, and can reach fully compliant without them. Your monthly compliance email now shows a sponsored score and a non-sponsored score side by side, so you can see which group moved.

Because non-sponsored workers are now counted, your overall score may shift when this arrives. Nothing has changed about the workers themselves.

Bulk import now needs a Country of nationality column on every row. Download the current template before your next import, because a file saved from the old one will be rejected. Two things to know:
