New: UK Employment Rights Check in Employment Contracts
Borderless now automatically checks every employment contract you upload for evidence that the worker has been informed of their UK employment rights, a Home Office sponsor duty in force since 9 April. This replaces the manual step of checking each contract yourself.
What's changed
When you upload an employment contract to Borderless, we now automatically scan the document for evidence that the worker has been informed of their UK employment rights. Where we can confirm the language is present, the section completes as normal. Where we can't confirm it, you'll be walked through a short confirmation step and asked to upload supporting evidence before the section can be marked complete.
What to expect when uploading
A guidance notice is now shown each time you upload an employment contract, reminding you that the document must contain evidence that the candidate has been informed of their UK employment rights.
If our system can't confirm rights evidence in the document, you'll see a warning and a short confirmation step. You'll need to tick a checkbox confirming the worker has been informed, and upload a supporting document. A signed acknowledgement letter, written statement of particulars, or training record all work.
Use the Borderless Employment Rights Handbook
If you don't already have a standard rights acknowledgement document, you can pick the Borderless Employment Rights Handbook from the template picker. We'll apply it to the affected contract for you and mark the section complete.
If you already have your own standard document saved on your account, the system will offer to auto-assign it so you don't have to re-upload it each time.
Guided one-at-a-time flow
When multiple contracts are flagged at once, Borderless now walks you through them one at a time with inline evidence upload, so you're never staring at a long queue of unresolved items. You can also skip and come back later, and we'll re-prompt you 2 days later so nothing falls through the cracks.
Bulk uploads
The bulk upload flow now surfaces employment contracts with missing rights evidence at Step 6, alongside other document errors. You can upload supporting evidence and assign it to all affected contracts in one action, or pick a standard document from the template picker to apply to every affected contract at once.
Existing contracts are not affected
Any employment contracts already in your account will remain completed without any action required. This only applies to new uploads going forward.
What to do
No action is needed for existing contracts. For new uploads, ensure your employment contracts include language covering UK statutory rights, or use the confirmation flow when prompted. If you have questions, reach out to your CSM or contact us via the support chat.
