🟦 What is a Defined CoS?

A Defined CoS is for someone applying for a visa from outside the UK.

  • This means the person is currently overseas.

  • They need this certificate to apply for their visa before they can enter the UK.

  • The Home Office checks these applications more strictly because the person is coming into the country for the first time under sponsorship.

🟩 What is an Undefined CoS?

An Undefined CoS is for someone who is already in the UK.

  • They may be switching sponsors or changing visa types (like from a student visa to a work visa).

  • They already have a visa but need a new CoS for their next step.

  • The process for an Undefined CoS is usually less strict than for a Defined CoS since the person is already in the country.
