What date should I pick for "Employment start date" on Borderless?

When confirming a candidate's employment on the Borderless platform, you'll be asked to enter an Employment Start Date. It's important to enter the correct date, as this is used for compliance and record-keeping.

๐Ÿ†• If This Is a New Sponsorship

Enter the employeeโ€™s actual start date of employment under the new CoS.

This is usually the date they physically started working for you under Skilled Worker sponsorship. Use this even if there was:

  • A delay between CoS issue and arrival in the UK

  • A gap for visa processing or travel

๐Ÿ”„ If This Is a Renewal / Extension

If the worker is already sponsored by you and is extending their Skilled Worker visa:

Enter the new sponsorship start date, meaning:

  • The date the new visa period begins under the renewed CoS.

This ensures records reflect the correct sponsorship period.

๐Ÿ“Œ Important

  • Always use the date that reflects the start of the relevant Skilled Worker sponsorship period.

  • Do not use historic employment dates that fall outside the current sponsorship being recorded

Example:

  • A candidate has worked for you under a Graduate Visa since January.

  • They switched to a Skilled Worker Visa under your sponsorship, starting June 10.

  • The date you should enter is June 10 โ€“ the start of sponsorship, not the original employment date.
